Die neuesten Smartphones sind zunehmend mit allen möglichen Schnittstellen ausgestattet. Die WLAN-Verbindung wird dabei genutzt, um zu Hause, im Büro oder an Hotspots bekannte oder offene WLAN Zugangspunkte zu benutzen, was günstiger und oft schneller ist als Internetzugang über UMTS/EDGE/GPRS.

Was ist jedoch mit den neuesten Smartphones und Handys, welche nebst WLAN auch HSPA (HSDPA, HSUPA) unterstützen? Bei entsprechender Abdeckung hat man mit HSPA fast schon WLAN Geschwindigkeit. Um diesen schnellen mobilen Internetzugang jedoch nicht nur mit dem Handy, sondern auch mit einem Notebook nutzen zu können, ist die oft mühsame Verbindung von Handy mit Notebook per Kabel oder Bluetooth notwendig und auf ein Gerät beschränkt.

Genau in diese Bresche springt die Software JoikuSpot von joikusoft.fi. Die kostenlose Software (z.Zt. in Betaversion) läuft auf den neuesten Smartphones mit Symbian Series60v3 Betriebssystem und damit auf allen Geräten des weltweiten Marktführes Nokia wie N95 oder E90. Einmal installiert, stellt die knapp über 40KB kleine .SIS Applikation einen mobilen Internetzugang über HSPA/UMTS/EDGE her und stellt dabei als AdHoc WLAN HotSpot diese Verbindung allen umliegenden Geräten per WLAN zur Verfügung. Simpel, einfach, effizient, bravo! Joikuspot light ist als Beta kostenlos verfügbar, die Bezeichnung "light" und Beta könnte darauf schliessen lassen, dass eine kostenpflichtige Version mit mehr Optionen folgen könnte.
